The Malaysia eSports League (MESL) will offer the largest prize pool for a local Dota 2 tournament with RM500,000 up for grabs.
Organised by Mineski Events Team, the league is broken down into four stages — qualifiers, group stage, playoff and grand final.
It will kick off on Sept 2 with the qualifiers to pick the top 16 teams. The teams will then face off in the group stage for a period of three months.
The eight winning teams will then battle it out in the playoff stage for two places in the grand final which will happen sometime in February 2018.
The last team standing will walk away with RM150,000, which is about ⅓ of the total prize pool offered.
If that’s not lucrative enough, title sponsor U Mobile will also be adding RM50,000 for the winning team if the players are active U Mobile customers.
The runners up will be taking home RM50,000 while the third and fourth placed teams will both earn RM20,000 respectively.
The league is open to all local players across both Peninsular and East Malaysia. However, foreigners are also able to take part if they have at least three Malaysians in a team.
“With MESL, we hope to develop more young talents and eSports icons such as “Mushi” Chai Yee Fung, “Ohaiyo” Khoo Chong Xin, “MidOne” Cheng Yeik Nai and “Ah Fu” Tue Soon Chuan,” said Mineski Events Team managing director Kenchi Yap.
“In the long run, we want to see the more representatives from Malaysia at the prestigious The International tournament especially in 2018.”
Local eSports fans can also look forward to more eSports tournaments as Yap is looking into the possibility of adding more popular games to the league next year.
